Bug Description

Binary package hint: lirc

I installed lirc inside Jaunty. When i try to start it after i installed the package i get

$ sudo /etc/init.d/lirc restart
 * Stopping remote control daemon(s): LIRC [fail]
 * Loading LIRC modules [ OK ]
 * Unable to load LIRC kernel modules. Verify your
 * selected kernel modules in /etc/lirc/hardware.conf

That's pretty strange since it's no problem to load these modules by hand. Enterung

$ sudo modprobe lirc_dev
$ sudo modprobe lirc_sir

results in

[...]
Mar 18 16:09:34 myone kernel: [11352.582933] lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, major 61
Mar 18 16:09:38 myone kernel: [11357.121040] lirc_dev: lirc_register_plugin: sample_rate: 0

inside /var/log/messages. It looks like lirc can't load the modules by itself.

i have the same message with module lirc_dev and lirc_serial.

manualy load and start of lirc will work fine.

I had the same problem in 9.04 x86.
I solved it by removing the '-k' option from modprobe in /etc/init.d/lirc since the manpage of modprobe knows of no 'k' option this script always fails to load/verify the modules.
