Subject: Recent changes to ALSA for power saving
Date: Tue, 26 May 2009 23:18:17 +0200

Hi all,

Luke and I have just pushed a one-line change to 9.10's
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf that enables HDA controllers to power
down their amps after ten idle seconds. This change anticipates the
larger power-savings objectives for 9.10.

We expect there will be regressions in the form of audible pops when
the AMPs power down (and/or up). If you experience this symptom in
9.10, please file a bug using "ubuntu-bug alsa-base". Be sure to
change the summary of the bug afterward to "[9.10 regression] HDA
power_save=10".

Thanks,
Dan

started rhythmbox, pushed "pause" and after ten seconds amps gives noise.

Also:
Prior to this change, during shutdown, amps gives noise when they power down.

Guys/gals,

It is absolutely imperative that you each file _separate_ bugs
containing your hardware information (ubuntu-bug alsa-base). "Me too"s
are insufficient, because we need your specific codec information and
SSID.

Filed separately, so the above can be ignored. Sorry for any added work, Daniel.

Mike, please file a separate bug about your issue, using "ubuntu-bug alsa-base" so we can get your hardware details.

Thanks.

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 380892

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
