They already have deb packages built at their site. Just the version, which will be used needs to be decided-their latest is in beta, tested and added to the repositories.

At this moment OpenTeacher 2.0 is still in beta, but it's already much more stable then the older 1.0. Secondly, the 2.0 is planned to be released before the end of the year.

The packages on our website are built by me, but I'm not fully sure if they meet the quality guidelines of Ubuntu. (I'm new to packaging.)

I noticed there is a launchpad branch already existent. Has packaging for ubuntu already started? Is someone working on it?

There are two branches for Ubuntu packaging, the first, lp:~flimm/openteacher/packaging is outdated. The second, lp:~openteachermaintainers/openteacher/debian contains my packaging work, but as I already said, I'm not sure if it meets Ubuntu quality guidelines.

So maybe it's possible to base the ubuntu packages on the second branch, but it's at the moment only intended for our 'own' packages, which we distribute at our sourceforge.net page.

If you are building deb packages, you could try to get it included in debian-it would eventually find it's way to ubuntu.

Successfully built the packages in natty using the linked launchpad branch. Maybe somebody should try in another machine just to be sure?

The current lp:~openteachermaintainers/openteacher/debian wouldn't meet Debian's packaging standards, as it treats openteacher as a native package when it isn't.

Arvind mailed me that he can't finish the packaging. Can someone deassign him (looks like I can't)? For a new packager, this is the relevant info he sent me:

'you could check out the
packaging I've already done. It can be found at
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/openteacher.git;a=tree and
can be checked out using "git clone
http://git.debian.org/git/openteacher.git". The packaging that already
exists doesn't conform to Debian standards and perhaps my packaging could
still help there. My watch file is broken, standards-version is outdated and
needs verification whether 3.9.2 will work(debian/control) and Cas
Widdershoven's email address needs to be added too.
http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/PythonModulesTeam/HowToJoin and #debian-python
channel on freenode should help as well. Whoever is interested in packaging
needs to register at alioth.debian.org and upload public key before they can
upload to the server.'
