Bug Description

I use Lenovo Thinkpad T500. It has a power button that is not registered when pressed. When I run xev and press the button, nothing happens. The button works when held for about ten seconds - it then turns the computer of (with no shutdown procedure).

I think it might be related to this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/281732

I the ubuntu kernal crew will not fix this, could you please forward it upstream?

I just tested with kernel 3.2-rc2 from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds and it happens there too.

Oh, and one omre thing - this has been happening ever since I bought this laptop over two years ago, so it is not a regression.

This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report at bugzilla.kernel.org [1]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

If you are comfortable with opening a bug upstream, It would be great if you can report back the upstream bug number in this bug report. That will allow us to link this bug to the upstream report.

The bugzilla.kernel.org site may still be unavailable due to the recent break-in. If that is the case, please add the tag: kernel-needs-upstream-bug-report

For me it actually seems to work. I was not pushing the button long enough. There is a delay for about 2 seconds before the machine registers a keypress.

Yes, you are right. It takes about a second in my case. Still a hinderance for me though.
