@heu: Perhaps you have a different variant of this problem. The default Ubuntu/Kubuntu setup is that your hostname has an entry for 127.0.1.1 in the /etc/hosts file, but it would be good if those who still have this problem can test this.

Could you try reverting your hosts file to original setup, and see if you get the problem again? If so, maybe you could try the 'gksudo kcontrol' or DCOP server shutdown and restart workarounds, and post any output here.

My hosts file has always had a 192.168.1.x address for this host - this did not change with the upgrade from Feisty to Gutsy, so if it is the cause then it's a regression.
