creative audigy2 zs platinum pro with livedrive module
lirc contain livedrive_midi driver in itself and doesn't needed additional modules
before ubuntu. i'm used lirc with this hardware on another distro about 3 years without problem.
to activate livedrive_ir need this options in modules rules
post-install snd-emu10k1 echo -e '\360\000\040\041\141\000\000\000\177\000\367' > /dev/snd/midiC0D1
but in ubuntu this has no action, but if i boot in windows, there are driver activate livedrive_ir and coldboot in linux, leaving livedrive_ir in on mode - lirc working after restarting lirc-service after full boot in system, not from first start lirc-service.

sorry for my english
i'm trying answer for questions if any.

Hi!
Thanks for your report. Could you provide some more information on your other distro what version you were using? The sources can then be compared between these two to better identify where this bug may have been introduced.

before ubuntu, altlinux it was

Sisyphus - is unstable distro, alike gutsy for now, i.e. repository of packages from which distros borning.

All times of using altlinux sisyphus by me - there are was different versions of kernel, alsa, lirc and it's all working.

i see two problem
1. lirc start before sound modules
2. something is barrier to send echo -e '\360\000\040\041\141\000\000\000\177\000\367' > /dev/snd/midiC0D1

and if 1. is fixes by restart lirc-service after full load, but 2. .... has no effect.

If the cause is indeed 1, then fixing this problem will likely be outside of the lirc init script. Alsa modules aren't loaded by /etc/init.d/alsa-utils, but rather mixers are just adjusted there. All module loading occurs via a hotplug mechanism.

You might consider creating a modprobe.conf that will start lirc right before the modules load. The problem with pushing such a configuration out to everyone, is that very few people opt to use the livedrive IR port / remote.

for lirc i just change number of lirc startup-script to S91lirc and first problem is gone away, but with next package update it will be return...

but the main problem - is activate IR on livedrive, also after full system load with all alsa modules and lirc started i can't do it by echo -e '\360\000\040\041\141\000\000\000\177\000\367' > /dev/snd/midiC0D1

few or no few people use such configuration - isn't a question, question is - why it not working in ubuntu, but working in other distros and how to make it working in ubuntu.

I'll fix the ubuntu lirc side of things for this bug, but not too sure about the alsa issue. You'll have to bring that up with the ALSA folks.
