Steven,

when does this happen? I can't see where mythtv-backend depends on lirc. Are you talking about mythbuntu-control-centre?

I can see the spirit of where this is an issue, but it requires a lot of changing in the way lirc is handled and where some items are shipped. It will have to be deferred until Hardy.

Well after thinking about this more, it does make sense to still leave activated. You *can* configure a backend using a remote control. Actually, since the lircrc is shipped, this should work out of the box.

This bug was fixed in the package mythbuntu-common - 0.37-0ubuntu1

---------------
mythbuntu-common (0.37-0ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * proprietary_codecs:
    - Request a package list update while installing the medibuntu keyring
      to prevent errors from aptdaemon about unauthenticated packages.
  * remote:
    - Make this plugin optional, by being able to install/remove lirc
      and mythbuntu-lirc-generator.
  * debian/control:
    - Drop lirc and mythbuntu-lirc-generator as Depends or Recommends.
      They're seeded in the desktop package, and entirely optional/installable
      from within MCC anyway. (LP: #133634)
